Oregon League of Minority Voters to present Civil-Rights Champion Award to Mayor Sam Adams, PCC President & others
Group to honor the late Harold Williams with Civil Rights Legacy Award
PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon League of Minority Voters (OLMV) will host its third annual State of Civil Rights Forum 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, at Self-Enhancement Inc Campus, 3920 North Kerby Avenue, Portland, OR 97227-1255 in Portland.
The free event is open to the public. Attendees must order tickets in advance by calling 503-946-8526 or by sending an email to olmv@oregonlmv.org.
An estimated 200 people are expected to attend the dinner, including public officials, business leaders and community leaders.
The event will include remarks by civil rights leaders. OLMV will present its coveted Civil Rights Champion Award to Portland Mayor Sam Adams, retiring Portland Community College President Preston Pulliam, and former President of the Northwest Health Foundation Thomas Aschenbrener.
In addition, the OLMV will honor the late Harold Williams with its Civil Rights Legacy Award.
“The goal of the event is to provide a forum for a frank assessment of the state of civil-rights and to continue  community dialogue about specific actions we can take to ensure all citizen’s ability to fully participate in civil and political life in Oregon,” said event co-chair Brian Owendoff.  
“We are taking this moment in our history as a people to affirm and recognize that the civil rights of every Oregonian are sacred and must be kept so, and that our collective liberty in pursuit of our individual rights is never exploited in ways that divide us,” added OLMV Director Promise King. “ And that those we elect to serve and represent us lead us toward unity and justice, and far away from discrimination and racial division.”
