Oregon State Capitol, Promise King & 768

Salem was silenced today and jaws dropped, as Promise King Executive Director of Oregon League of Minority Voters testified for Oregon's new future of equality. With passion and conviction his voice was heard. Today the epitome of social justice was exemplified forcing all to wake up and see Oregon's future with 768. After cycles of interrogation Promise confidently left knowing he did his part for social justice in Oregon.

OLMV to honor university and hospital heads at
annual Liberty and Hope Awards Dinner on June 7

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Oregon League of Minority Voters (OLMV) will honor Oregon State University President Ed Ray, University of Oregon President Michael Gottfredson, and Oregon Health & Science University President Joseph Robertson Jr. at its sixth annual Liberty and Hope Awards Dinner. The fundraising banquet will take place 5:30-9 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

Tickets are $150 per person. Event sponsorships are also available. To purchase either, contact the OLMV at olmv@oregonlmv.org or (503) 525-8161. The OLMV will make a limited number of complimentary tickets available for interested community members.

“We chose to honor these three men for their efforts to empower and advance the interest of minority students and faculties in their various institutions in Oregon,” said OLMV Executive Director Promise King. “We invite all those who share our vision of one great and indivisible Oregon to join us as we celebrate their commitment and contributions.”

“Even as we advocate daily, highlighting the battles of diversity and inclusion that still need to be won, this dinner offers us a forum to thank and recognize those who are intentional and consistent in making inclusion and diversity possible in our state systems and institutions,” said OLMV Chair Sho Dozono. “For the fun of it, we will instigate a ‘Civil War’ between the Ducks and the Beavers present at the dinner for the sake of sustaining our civil rights advocacy efforts.”

The sixth annual Liberty and Hope Awards recognize those in the majority who take extraordinary steps to promote excellence and opportunities for people of color. More than 400 supporters, including community leaders, elected officials, business chieftains, and non-profit executives, attended last year’s event. Organizers expect an even larger crowd this year.

Past honorees include former Oregon governors Vic Atiyeh and Barbara Roberts, former U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith, former Portland Mayor Tom Potter, Providence Hospital CEO Ross Danielson, former TriMet General Manager Fred Hanson, Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen, David Bartz Jr. of Schwabe Williamson & Wyatt, philanthropist Tom Kelly and Nike founder Phil Knight.
